Advancements in technology mold and shape all fields of dentistry and medicine – endodontics is no exception! The tools now available allow us to to better diagnose and treat patients in a more efficient and efficacious manner.
The acquisition of 3-D imaging adds a new dimension to diagnosis and treatment of teeth. Conventional radiographs have limitations due to the density of bone, superimposition of roots and adjacent structures. Flattening of these and other structures on a 2-dimensional image can hinder diagnosis and potentially affect treatment outcome. The use of CBCT allows accurate assessment of tooth anatomy, the relationship to surrounding structures, visualization of undetectable or questionable lesions and previously untreated/hidden root anatomy.
The use of digital radiographs facilitates immediate acquisition of the image taken while reducing your radiation exposure by up to 80-90%.
The use of varying levels of magnification with fiber optic illumination allows visualization of tooth anatomy otherwise undetectable. Dr. Jafarnia uses an operating microscope for virtually all procedures.
The incorporation of nickel-titanium rotary files allows better negotiation of the roots while maintaining the strength and original anatomy of the tooth. Ultrasonics facilitate precise removal of minute amounts of tooth structure from areas deep within the roots. Apex locators obtain accurate measurements of the root canals negating the need for additional radiographs.
